About 12 people rallied in front of Government Center this morning in support the city’s creation of a domestic partner registry, the legislation that now only a mayoral veto can slow. Mayor Carty Finkbeiner has until the end of the day Friday to act on legislation approved by City Council last week in a 10-2 vote. The legislation allows same-sex or heterosexual unmarried couples to register as domestic partners, providing employers who want to offer benefits to unmarried couples a way to check their relationship status. But the mayor has indicated he will make a decision by today whether to sign the legislation, veto it, or do nothing, which has the same effect as signing the ordinance.
